Wildlife Smuggling and Baggage
Smuggler since 3 years ago applied new modus to send wildlife illegally to abroad. They use courier or post to smuggling live wildlife or parts. By post, the syndicate just mentions fake address and receiver. The receiver then put the packet in destination area. This modus is carried out to avoid detection in airport or seaport. The important thing is, they ‘use’ post as second man to transfer wildlife to destination. If the package was confiscate, the law enforcement officer just found wildlife and not the suspect. The forest ranger or police will be difficult to identify the sender because they have not enough information in the package.
This modus have been used to smuggle frozen pangolin, tiger skin, elephant’s ivory, and egg. In 2008, Vietnam custom confiscate more than 25 tons of frozen pangolins. The shipment came from Tanjung Priok, (Indonesia), used legal shipping, but fake address and company name. In 2009, middleman sent tiger skin and frozen pangolins to collector in Jakarta used bus courier. No sufficient address and receiver noted in the package.(dna)[mappress]
