Introducing WCS and WCU Activity to UI's New Students
WCS was invited by Faculty of Science Committee to introduce WCS activity to new bioloy students in University of Indonesia. WCS were representated by Minda (Deputy Director of Administration) and Dwi (WCU and WRU Coordinator). This moment aim to introduce Non-Governmental Organization which is focusing on environment issues. CI (Conservation International) also invited in this moment.
WCS prepared 2 presentations; WCS introduction with WCS-IP (Wildlife Conservation Society-Indonesia Program) activities through sites and WCU as one of WCS-IP program focusing on reduced illegal wildlife trafficking in Indonesia. Minda explained history of WCS International, countries program in a lot of countries and impact of WCS existence to global conservation. Minda also explained WCS mission to save wildlife and wildlands with scientific approach, to solve conservation problems with research and implementations. In WCS-IP, Minda explained all program and sites, include Tiger Conservation Program in Sumatra, WCU operations in Sumatra and Java, Way Canguk Research Station, Sulawesi Program include PNPM and Maleo, and Marine Program. WCS open internship program to students which is interested with field research activity.
Dwi explained about wildlife crimes typhology; modus, routes, state loss, and trans-boundary wildlife crimes, especially in Southeast Asia. Pangolin, tiger, elephant, birds, and primates are the most popular group of wildlife which is smulled to other country by syndicates. Total loss of this reached billions rupiahs per year. Dwi also explained opportunities and challenges to reduce wildlife trafficking in Indonesia.
Committee gave question session to audiences to asked some question related WCS and WCU. At least 7 students asked how to joint with WCS as a staff or volunteer, opportunity to do field research in Way Canguk Research Station, about ASEAN WEN, acts related with wildlife regulations and protections, etc. In the end of session, committee gave certificate to Minda and Dwi, say thanks for their coming and presentation for new students.(dna)
